2 Killed In South Austin Apartment Fire
Fire crews battling early Monday morning fire at 2901 Barton Skyway later found 2 bodies in subsequent sweeps of charred building.
SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Two people were killed in a fire that engulfed a South Austin apartment complex early Monday, fire officials said.
The fire was reported just before 4:30 a.m. at 2901 Barton Skyway, according to Austin Fire Department officials. Austin fire crews discovered a body in one of the units during a second sweep of the site. Later that morning, at around 7:30 a.m., fire officials reported the discovery of a second body in the charred remains of the building.
Another nine people were displaced as a result of the fire, which started on a second-floor balcony that spread into the attic. Monetary loss was estimated at $500,000 for damage to the building and another $250,000 for its contents.

Spyglass update, an additional victim has been located in the debris of the fire apartment. This brings the total to two victims.
