But first, today's weather:
Cloudy with showers. High: 54 Low: 40.
Here are the top stories today in Austin:
1) AISD enrollment is down, continuing a decade-long trend of a declining student population. According to school district data, as of Oct 2022, this year's student population is 872 students lower than the 74,602 that were enrolled at the same time last year. Numerous factors, including the increased cost of living in Austin and competing with charter school recruitment play into the declining enrollment. Head to The Statesman for more on this story.
2) Community help needed: APD is searching for a missing 76-year-old man last seen leaving a medical facility near Amherst Drive and Parmer Lane. KVUE reports: "Paull Patterson was reported missing at around 3:10 a.m. on Nov. 7 after he was last seen at 4 p.m. on Nov. 6 leaving a medical facility, Colonial Gardens, near the intersection of Amherst Drive and Parmer Lane. APD stated that Patterson is in need of daily medication and suffers from a cognitive illness. KVUE has more on how you can report any tips.
3) An Austin-based startup announces its plans to use 3D-printing technology to build homes in Georgetown. Icon has announced its planning to use its 3D printers to build 100 houses in Wolf Ranch by Hillwood, a new master-planned community in Georgetown. The Statesman reports that "the community would be the first large-scale 3D-printed housing development in the United States". In-credible!! The Statesman has more on Icon's initiatives.
4) Feel good news: A community member rented out a local theater for kids to enjoy the new "Black Panther" film. KXAN reports: "When Austin hair stylist Greg'ry Baladez first saw "Black Panther" four years ago, he said he was struck by seeing himself and his culture represented on the big screen and wanted the same for local children. Now he's bringing that years-old dream to life, partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Austin to host a free screening of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" Sunday evening." KXAN has more on this heartwarming story here.
