Almond Milk Containing Real Milk Recalled In Texas, Elsewhere

More than 145,000 half-gallon containers of Vanilla Almond Breeze products were found to contain milk, a known allergen to some.

AUSTIN, TX — More than 145,000 half-gallon of refrigerated almond milk distributed nationally, including in Texas, has been recalled because the product may contain actual milk — an undeclared allergen posing risks to those with severe sensitivity to dairy.

Massachusetts-based HP Hood LLC recalled its Vanilla Almond Breeze products after the discovery of cow milk was detected, according to the Food & Drug Administration. Regulators noted that the product is safe to drink unless the consumer has a milk allergy or sensitivity.

To date, there has been one report of an allergic reaction but medical treatment was not required, the FDA reported in the recall notice. However, the FDA noted people with milk allergies run the risk of serious and even life-threatening allergic reaction if the product is consumed.

The recall only applies to the refrigerated Vanilla Almond Breeze almond milk with a use-by date of Sept. 2, 2018. To identify the affected product, consumers should look for the stamped information printed as:
