Fourth-Grader Selected for Prestigious 2026 National Math Stars Pathfinder Cohort

Chosen from over 8,700 applicants nationwide, Barik ranks in the top 2 percent of young math students in the United States.

Eklavya Barik, a fourth-grade student at Harmony School of Science in Austin, has been named to the 2026 National Math Stars Pathfinder cohort, earning national recognition for exceptional mathematical talent. Barik was selected from a competitive pool of over 8,700 applicants nationwide following outstanding performance on the NWEA MAP assessment, placing in the top 2% of third- and fourth-grade students across the country.

The National Math Stars program identifies mathematically gifted children in early elementary school and provides a comprehensive, 10-year enrichment journey. As a Pathfinder cohort member, Barik will receive long-term support designed to nurture advanced problem-solving abilities and clear a path toward future leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

"We are incredibly proud of Eklavya for achieving this national distinction," said Ms. Amy Guney, principal of Harmony School of Science. "To be recognized among the top two percent of students in the country is a testament to Eklavya's hard work, curiosity, and analytical skill. Our entire school community looks forward to supporting Eklavya as this exciting 10-year journey begins."

The 10-year program provides student scholars with advanced coursework, specialized mentoring, financial resources, family advising, and collaborative community experiences to ensure high-potential students can fully realize their talents.

By connecting gifted students with long-term academic and financial backing, National Math Stars aims to build a strong pipeline of future innovators and problem-solvers across the nation.
