📰 News we're reading

1. Austin-Travis County EMS reports 13 people transported from season's first football game (cbsaustin.com) — At the season's first UT Austin home football game, Austin‑Travis County EMS transported 13 people to local hospitals, with several cases possibly linked to the afternoon heat. With August and September still dangerously hot, officials urge residents to pre‑hydrate, wear light clothing, use shade or AC, and save strenuous outdoor activities for cooler morning or evening hours.

2. Concerns grow over safety, jet ski use on Lake Austin (kxan.com) — Lake Austin is under a temporary Labor Day jet ski ban while Austin leaders weigh tougher rules after a recent crash injured a child. With only one police patrol boat covering Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake, residents and a city council member are pushing for stricter limits on rental jet skis and better enforcement to keep families safe on increasingly crowded waters.

3. Knightvest Capital Buys 1,000-Unit North Austin, TX Res Portfolio (rentv.com) — A major 1,027‑unit apartment portfolio in North Austin has been sold to Knightvest Capital, signaling continued investment in the city's growing tech corridor. Centered near The Domain and Lakeline Mall, the properties target renters seeking alternatives to pricier hubs, while market data shows Austin's multifamily sector stabilizing with improving occupancy and renewed rent growth.

4. Texas coalition holds Austin rally against data centers (grahamleader.com) — A recent rally outside a downtown Austin hotel challenged the rapid growth of data centers and urged lawmakers to set strict statewide limits on their size, power use, and noise. With Austin City Council now drafting its own regulations, local advocates want caps on megawatts, building size, and acreage that could shape how future facilities impact neighborhoods, water, and power supplies.
