Instead of taking their caps off when walking through the door on Sept. 4, students from Harmony School of Innovation-Austin put their caps on for cancer by hosting a campuswide fundraiser for Caps for Kids.

Caps for Kids is a national nonprofit organization that gifts hats autographed by celebrities, athletes, and musical artists to children undergoing cancer treatment. The extraordinary headwear provides emotional support, comfort, and a boost of confidence to children who experience hair loss during chemotherapy.

Schools across the country host Cap Days to raise funds for the organization. For a $1 donation, HSI-Austin students, teachers, and administrators earned the privilege of wearing their favorite caps throughout the school day. Through their efforts on Cap Day and an enthusiastic online campaign, HSI-Austin raised nearly $300 to support the program.

"I am immensely proud of our students and staff for coming together to support such a meaningful cause," said HSI-Austin Principal Yilmaz Deliktas. "Wearing a cap to school is a simple gesture, but the hope, joy, and confidence it helps bring to children fighting cancer is truly priceless."
