Austin firefighters deploy to wildfires across the state (kvue.com) — Austin firefighters are fanning out across Texas to battle multiple wildfires each day, while still keeping local residents focused on preparing for their own risk. Crews from the Austin Fire Department and Austin Disaster Relief Network are supporting hard‑hit communities, and the ATX Wildfire Hub offers you step‑by‑step guidance on protecting your home before, during, and after a fire.
   

2. Austin, LCRA to lower Lake Austin 10 feet this fall, businesses brace for hit (cbsaustin.com) — Lake Austin will be lowered by 10 feet between Oct. 12 and Nov. 30 for maintenance and shoreline cleanup, and some local boat rental and lake-dependent businesses fear losing crucial fall income. City of Austin and LCRA officials shifted drawdowns from winter to fall after Winter Storm Uri, and affected operators plan to voice concerns at Thursday's Austin City Council meeting.
   

3. Man arrested again after alleged window peeping in Austin's West Campus (cbsaustin.com) — Police arrested a man again this week on suspicion of peeping into apartment windows in Austin's West Campus near UT, following similar allegations in August. Austin police and UTPD say multiple reports have come from the San Gabriel Street area and are urging residents to stay alert, secure doors and windows, and report suspicious activity immediately.
   

4. Austin's Street Medics Race to Beat the Heat • The Austin Chronicle (austinchronicle.com) — Street Medics Austin volunteers are stepping up to protect unhoused neighbors from brutal summer heat by handing out hundreds of free first aid and cooling kits around town. As Austin‑Travis County EMS strains under rising heat‑related calls, the group also offers free CPR, Narcan, and first aid trainings at local churches, libraries, and community centers so everyday Austinites can help in emergencies.
   

5. Max Fry w/ Buzz Kull & Kontravoid (do512.com) — Austin will host the LEVITATION festival September 10–13, 2026, filling Red River District and East Side venues with psych rock, punk, metal, darkwave, indie, and electronic acts. Locals can buy single-show tickets or 4-Day Passes now and watch for more lineup additions, including a secret Sunday headliner still to be announced.
