📰 News we're reading

1. Texas' acclaimed Cuantos Tacos is getting first restaurant. More to know. (lmtonline.com) — A beloved East Austin food truck, Cuantos Tacos, is moving ahead with plans to open its first brick‑and‑mortar restaurant at 808 Justin Lane in North Austin, with construction targeted to finish by spring 2027. The Michelin‑recognized spot plans to keep its food‑truck vibe while adding indoor seating, a bar, and an expanded menu with drinks and daily specials.

2. Who pays to restore Zilker Park after ACL? Austin explains (mysanantonio.com) — If you've been worrying about Zilker Park after a soggy first ACL weekend, city officials say festival promoter C3 Presents must fully pay to restore the Great Lawn, not taxpayers. Austin Parks staff are monitoring turf damage daily, planning intensive remediation, and will reopen sections of the park as soon as conditions are safe and stable.

3. Austin's 'No Wrong Door' shows early progress 6 months into effort to break cycle of repeat crises (kvue.com) — Austin's "No Wrong Door" program is already reducing how often a small group of high-need residents cycle through police encounters and behavioral health crises, according to new data shared with City Council. The initiative coordinates Austin police, EMS, courts, and homelessness services to shift people from repeated emergencies toward more appropriate care, while officials stress there's still a long way to go.

4. More funding coming to Austin's trauma recovery center (kxan.com) — Austin's Harvest Trauma Recovery Center has secured enough new city and Travis County funding to stay open, preserving free services for local violent crime survivors and their families. After months of uncertainty, the center can continue offering thousands of hours of trauma-informed therapy without relying solely on unstable grants.
