Armed Robbery At South Austin Bank Branch Reported

After a year that saw 21 bank heists, the city's first such heist occurred at a Chase Bank branch on Slaughter Lane on Saturday.

AUSTIN, TX — The year's first armed bank robbery — after a year that saw a string of 21 such crimes — occurred in the southeastern portion of the city on Saturday, police reported.

The incident occurred at around 1:45 p.m. at a Chase Bank branch located on 5700 W. Slaughter Lane, police said via Twitter. The male suspect was described as standing at five feet, ten inches in height. He was seen wearing a black helmet and googles, gray jacket and gloves, black pants, gray shoes.

In their tweet, police noted the man was armed with a handgun. "If you saw something, please call 9-1-1," police wrote. No further details were released.

No injuries were reported. Police reported the crime on social media, including surveillance camera images of the accused man who is still at large.
