Ascension Seton congratulates Nursing Academy students
2023 Fall Nursing Academy: Inspiring the Next Generation of Caregivers
Mona Gaw, DNP, RN, Chief Nursing Officer of Ascension Seton Northwest and Ascension Seton Southwest, recently congratulated over 60 students who were selected (out of 250 applicants) for the 2023 Fall Nursing Academy held at Austin Community College (ACC). Mona represented all the Ascension Seton sites and shared her journey as a nurse to further inspire the high school students – our future nurses and healthcare workers.
The annual Nursing Academy is a collaborative effort between Workforce Solutions, ACC and the Central Texas Healthcare Partnership, which includes Ascension Texas. This is one of the many initiatives that Ascension is currently engaged in to develop pipelines and pathways for the next generation of caregivers.
The Nursing Academy is for junior and high school students in the Central Texas area interested in healthcare careers. The event allows students from Austin, Del Valle, Dripping Springs, Elgin, Georgetown, Hays, Leander, Lockhart, Pflugerville and Round Rock ISDs, as well as local charter schools and American YouthWorks, to explore nursing career paths, along with hands-on opportunities in Austin Community College’s simulation labs to experience wound care, injections and IV lines. The nursing shortage is the largest gap in employment for healthcare, and the event is designed to help inspire the next generation of skilled healthcare workers, as well as spotlight the value nurses provide to our community.
