Ascension Texas associates help ICU patient out of ruff spot
Nurses take care of patient's dog for nine days during recovery

Ascension Texas associates recently demonstrated the Ascension Service Commitments and dedication to compassionate, personalized care by caring for the dog of a patient who was admitted to the intensive care unit at one of Ascension Seton’s hospitals in Austin. The patient had no immediate family and the dog needed extra care.
With the help of Steve Worthington, the hospital’s facilities supervisor, Mona Gaw, DNP, RN, hospital Chief Nursing Officer (pictured), took the dog to a veterinarian so it could be vaccinated. Mona’s family took care of the dog for nine days and Joey Dennis, RN, ICU charge nurse, gave the dog a haircut during his time off.
Once discharged, the patient was overjoyed to be reunited with her pet. As they left the hospital, the dog was excited to wear a new sunburn protection vest and enjoy a care package full of treats from the team.
