Ascension Texas Names New Chief Operating Officer
Christann Vasquez, who officially takes the helm on Sept. 1, currently serves as Regional Hospital President for Dell Seton Medical Center.

AUSTIN, TX — Christann Vasquez, has been tapped as chief operating officer of Ascension Texas, officials announced Thursday.
Vasquez takes the helm officially on Sept. 1. Vasquez currently serves as Regional Hospital President for Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, and Ascension Seton Shoal Creek. She will report to Andy Davis, former COO of Ascension Texas who was recently promoted to CEO in July.
As Ascension Texas Chief Operating Officer, Vasquez will have leadership and operational responsibilities for all twelve Ascension Texas hospitals and service lines. As a member of the senior executive team, she will lead and oversee hospital operations planning, policies and practices for Ascension Texas in collaboration with executive leadership.

“We are fortunate to have Christann accept the Ascension Texas COO role, and I am confident that her leadership expertise and talents will continue to support the advancement of our healthcare system,” Davis said in a prepared statement. “In her new role, Christann will support our ongoing commitment to operational excellence and continue to build nationally ranked clinical programs across our network.”
Vasquez has an extensive background as a healthcare executive. She joined Ascension Seton in 2014 as the inaugural President of Dell Seton Medical Center and the President of University Medical Center Brackenridge. In 2016, she successfully opened Seton’s new academic medical center and collaborated with the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin to recruit faculty for the school and strengthen academic and clinical programs. During her tenure as Regional Hospital President, she developed a burn center for an 11-county Central Texas region, assisted with the development of an adult cystic fibrosis clinic at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, and collaborated with other executives to launch a new Administrative Residency Program, among other accomplishments.

Prior to joining Ascension Seton, Vasquez served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of University Health System, a partner of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and led the strategic planning for and construction of a replacement for University Hospital. She also served as Vice President and Chief Executive Officer in the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System for more than 14 years in Houston and a past Chief Operating and Chief Financial Officer for Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services.
She earned a master’s degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Houston, Clear Lake and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Behavioral Sciences from George Williams College in Illinois.
