Asian American Resource Center Issues Call For Artists

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Asian American Resource Center has issued a call for artists for its 2020 exhibit season.

The goal of the AARC Exhibits Program is to both promote the creative endeavors of Asian American Pacific Islander artists and showcase artists who celebrate the community, its dynamic heritage, and contemporary identity through artistic subject matter. AARC officials encourage both emerging and established artists of all disciplines to apply.

There are multiple exhibit spaces at the site, including a lively ballroom, foyer, display cases, and exhibit halls looking out to a beautiful Zen Garden.

The deadline to submit exhibit proposals is April 28. There is no fee to submit an exhibit proposal and all related exhibits, and events are free and open to the public. For submission instructions and information, visit: aarc.submittable.com.

In related news, the Asian American Resource Center (AARC) will host a third community meeting centered on its Master Plan Update on March 28 at the AARC Ballroom. Scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the meeting is scheduled to take place at the AARC Ballroom, 8401 Cameron Rd.

At the meeting, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department will present the preliminary concepts to the community. These designs are driven by the master planning values that were derived from the first community meeting, small group meetings, survey, and additional community input.

Background

The mission of the AARC is to provide spaces, services, resources, and programs through an Asian American Pacific Islander perspective. The vision is to empower Austin's diverse communities through cultural understanding and life-enhancing opportunities. The Asian American and Pacific Islander community continues to be the fastest growing demographic in Austin, making up more than 8% of the current population.

The initial master plan was completed in 2006, and construction of Phase I was completed 5 years ago. Since then, the AARC has become one of the most visited cultural centers in Austin, serving more than 20,000 lunches to seniors, and supporting more than 3,900 artists.
