Austin Airport Flight Cancellations Sparked By Winter Storm

Flights started being canceled as early as 8 p.m. on Monday ahead of a winter storm that will produce sleet and freezing rain.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin-Bergstrom International Airport officials urge travelers to check their flight status if departing or arriving on Tuesday, as flights will likely be delayed or canceled outright due to winter storm conditions.

Carriers already have canceled some arrivals at the Austin airport starting at around 8 p.m. on Monday, officials said. As a result, cancellations of some departing flights are likely n Tuesday, Jan. 16, airport officials added.

"Further, departing travelers may experience delays before take off and arrivals may experience delays before deplaning due to activities and safety pre-cautions necessary during inclement winter weather events," airport officials said in a statement. "These activities include the de-icing of aircraft and ensuring aircraft movement areas are clear."
