Austin Among Top U.S. Cities To Find A Job

AUSTIN, TX — Against the backdrop of a robust national economy marked with a 50-year-low unemployment rate, Austin has emerged as one of the top five cities to find a job.

WalletHub researchers ranked the capital city fourth in its rankings of the best places for job seekers as part of its study of 180 cities. All told, 31 metrics were used in the assessment that included a data set ranging from employment growth to job opportunities.

Here's how Austin emerged in terms of its rankings within various categories: (1=best; 91=average.):

  • 34th – Job Opportunities
  • 6th – Employment Growth
  • 1st – Unemployment Rate
  • 12th – Monthly Average Starting Salary
  • 69th – % of Workforce Living in Poverty
  • 14th – Median Annual Income*

*Adjusted for cost of living

Besting Austin in the top five were Scottsdale, Arizona; South Burlington, Vermont; and San Francisco. Clinching the fifth spot was Fremont, California.
