For Austin Animal Shelter Resident Boudreaux, It Truly Is A Dog's Life

The 80-pound dogue de bordeaux mix has encountered the worst luck finding a home than any other resident, thrice being returned.

AUSTIN — Boudreaux, a resident at the Austin dog shelter, embodies the idea that, sometimes, times can be hard — it's a dog's life, as people say when referring to trials and tribulations.

A six-and-a-half-year old, 80-pound dogue de bordeaux mix, Bou has encountered some of the worst luck ever experienced by an shelter dog after having been returned three times to the shelter after initially being adopted. The third time, Bou was returned after only a few days before the prospective adopters realized they would be unable to provide him with the type of home needed.

The gentle canine had a scheduled exit from the Austin Animal Center in November, meaning the canine faced a deadline for being adopted out or become part of the small percentage of animals at risk for euthanasia. But because of his age and size, it's been difficult to find him a forever home.

Dogs Out Loud, a shelter assistance group that helps train larger, harder-to-place dogs, has stepped in trying to find him an ideal home. Shelter officials are rooting for Bou, but returns to the kennel have stressed the big boy out, according to shelter officials.

"Bou is eager to find his quiet and calm home," Eric Larnick, who is helping Dogs Out Loud in securing a permanent home for Bou, told Patch. "He loves to go for car rides, snuggle with his person, nap and get spoiled with P. Terry's burgers & Starbucks croissants. He loves bully sticks and sunbathing. He has been evaluated by a behaviorist who thinks he is a lovely dog. And he is eager to please his forever family."

Anyone who is interested in potentially adopting Bou should contact adopt@dogsoutloud.org. Officials said Bou would do best in a home without other pets or small children. Friends of Bou have been sharing the hapless dog's adoption search on Facebook & Instagram using the hashtag #findahomeforbubbab.
