From lessons on equity to manufacturing, educational community events abound at the college district in the coming days.

AUSTIN, TX — From lessons on equity to manufacturing, community events abound at the Austin Community College District through early August.

  • Skill-Up @ ACC: Manufacturing Open House: Manufacturing is one of the most in-demand careers in Central Texas, with 57,000 jobs. Skilled workers can earn up to $75,000 a year. ACC invites students and the community to explore job openings, meet employers looking to hire, watch live demonstrations, and learn about the training programs at the Skill-Up: Manufacturing open house Saturday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverside Campus, Frank Squires Building (1020 Grove Blvd.).   • Adopt Our Pets: ACC needs your help finding good homes for our pets. Every semester, ACC Veterinary Technology students, faculty, and staff care for and treat shelter animals from the region. As the summer semester comes to a close, those animals are ready for forever homes. These pets include cats and dogs have undergone training and socialization, been microchipped, and received medical care, including vaccinations and heartworm prevention.
  • Final week for 1-on-1 support: Registration Stations are set-up across the district to help students and their families get 1-on-1 support registering for fall classes. The stations are open at campus learning labs and at the Highland and San Gabriel campus ACCelerators from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday from now through August 3.   • Closing equity gaps: ACC invites students and the community to a town hall discussion 9 to 10 a.m., Saturday, August 3, at Millennium Youth Complex (1156 Hargrave St.). Dr. Melissa Biegert, director of High School Programs Advising and Completion, will discuss why teens of color should start college early and hear success stories.
