From a Health Sciences open house to a star-gazing event for the Orion Nebula to observing Black History Month, much is planned.

AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Community College is hosting a series of community events in the coming days.

Health Sciences Open House

The school's Nursing Program climbs in national ranking list: NursingProcess.org — a leading online source for nursing education and career information — ranked the Associate Degree Nursing Program No. 4 in the Southwest Region. The program trains students to become registered nurses. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says Texas will need more than 50,000 additional RNs to meet future healthcare needs. ACC student pass rates for the national licensure exam consistently exceeds state and national averages.

Faculty will be on hand to answer questions on how to enroll at the upcoming Health Sciences Open House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Eastview Campus , 3401 Webberville Rd. Registration is now open at austincc.edu/healthcareers.

Black History Month Observance

Black History Month | Resiliency, Women, and Wellness: Austin Community College continues its series of events in honor of Black History Month with a look at the well-being of black women. A panel discussion will provide insight and information on overcoming barriers and stereotypes of mental health, physical and social well-being, and economic wellness. The event is from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Eastview Campus, Room 2158, 3401 Webberville Rd. The event is free and open to the public.

Explore the Orion Nebula up on the roof

The community is invited to celebrate the first Star Party of 2020 from 6 to 9:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at the Round Rock Campus, 4400 College Park Dr. Students, employees, and the community will explore a mobile planetarium, hands-on science and guided viewing through telescopes on the astronomy viewing deck. Extra support for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree

A series of events are planned district-wide for Transfer Week Feb. 17 through Feb. 23. Students will have an opportunity to connect with university recruiters, advisers, and the Austin Community College transfer team. More than 20 universities are expected to participate.

    • South Austin Campus (1820 W Stassney Ln.), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18.
    • Round Rock Campus (4400 College Park Dr.), 12 to 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20.

Transfer fair for veterans

A special transfer fair for veterans is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Highland campus, Veterans Resource Center in Building 4000, 6101 Highland Campus Dr. For more information, visit austincc.edu/transferweek.
