Austin Cop Draws 15-Day Suspension For Public Urination
Gustavo Guzman is the second officer to be disciplined for drunken behavior after the police union's annual gala at a downtown venue.

AUSTIN, TX — A police officer is on a 15-day suspension after urinating outside a banquet hall after leaving a police gala, according to a published report.
The incident dates to November but was only recently known via the release of a disciplinary memo referenced by the Austin American-Statesman in a report. The document details how on Nov. 9, 2017, officer Gustavo Guzman was exiting the Moody Theater, 310 W Willie Nelson Blvd., where the Austin police union's annual Distinguished Awards Gala had been staged.
“Officer Guzman became intoxicated at the event and urinated outside of the banquet hall as he was leaving the facility,” the memo's narrative stream details. “Officer Guzman’s actions were witnessed by at least three people, which brought discredit to the Austin Police Department (APD).”

Guzman began serving his suspension on May 3 and is expected to return to duty on May 17, according to the report. The officer was the second to be disciplined for unsavory actions on the night of the gala. As the Statesman earlier reported, the union's vice president, Andrew Romero, recently resigned from his post after yelling and cursing at venue staff following his consumption of around 10 alcoholic drinks.
