Austin Eateries Celebrating International Pancake Day

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery and IHOP will offer deals on Feb. 13 and Feb. 27, respectively, for those eschewing or complementing Valentine's Day.

AUSTIN, TX — Valentine's Day, Shmalentine's Day. Forget that (particularly you singles) and instead mark your calendar for the upcoming International Pancake Day.

Yes, it's a thing. Hallmark may have opted not to design a line of greeting cards for this batter holiday, but it's most definitely a thing. And to help celebrate, some eateries specializing in flap jacks will be offering deals.

Fans of Snooze, an A.M. Eatery who love their breakfast food will be able to enjoy a showcase-style menu of seven exclusive, sweet & savory pancakes on Feb. 13, officials of the restaurant chain said. The flight-sized flapjacks will be priced at $3.75 each, including: Cherry Chocolate Pie, Whiskey Cake, and Just In Queso made with a cornmeal pancake with roasted corn inside topped with homemade queso featuring Polidori Chorizo.

Snooze will also be serving up a Mardi Gras delicacy with an A.M. twist. Made with Snooze’s signature buttermilk pancake topped with lemon curd, blueberry mascarpone and toasted coconut. It's a meal worthy of a king, and is called, in fact, The King Cake.

In keeping with tradition, lucky guests at each location that find the baby (aka “the jack”) in The King Cake will win a $25 Snooze gift card, Snooze Pancake T-shirt, and more. All signature Snooze pancakes will be available to order as well.

All pancake proceeds from Snooze’s Pancake Day will go to Austin’s local community garden projects at Becker Elementary and Sunshine Community Gardens, allowing those indulging heartily to do so guilt-free in knowing it's all for a good cause.

The two Snooze locations are at Snooze South Lamar and Snooze North Lamar at 1700 S. Lamar Boulevard and 3800 N. Lamar Blvd., respectively. For a sneak peek into Snooze’s Pancake Day menu click here.

The event is scheduled on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at all Snooze locations. For additional information on Snooze, visit www.snoozeeatery.com and follow on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Another pancake purveyor targeting a global audience, the International House of Pancakes known in the vernacular as IHOP will schedule its own version of the holiday on Feb. 27. On IHOP National Pancake Day, guests get free pancakes from 7 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Some IHOPs will extend those hours until 10 p.m. for the free pancakes promotion. To be sure, call your local IHOP location to find out if they're offering the extended hours on the day.

Those partaking will get a free short stack (3) of their famous buttermilk pancakes. While not required, diners will be asked to give a donation to the Children's Miracle Network in any amount in exchange for the pancakes, a social contract that benefits life-saving medical treatments for sick children.

The goal this year is to reach $5 million in donations. Among the charities benefiting over the years are the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Shriners Hospitals for Children and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Since National Pancake Day began in 2006, IHOP has raised nearly $30 million for its community partners.
