Austin Fans Haven't Forgotten Selena As They Prepare Tributes

Twenty-one years have passed since the Tejano superstar was killed by a deranged fan but her memory lives on with fans.

AUSTIN, TX -- Selena forever.

This year marks the 21st year since Tejano supestar -- now turned icon --Selena Quintanilla Pérez was killed. Yet her indelible memory endures in the hearts of fans -- including those in Austin who will help celebrate her musical legacy this month.

On April 12, The Glitoris’ fourth annual TuezGayz Selena tribute party is scheduled to take place at Barbarella, 615 Red River St. The event begins at 9 p.m. with small Selena tributes at 11 p.m., midnight, 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. There is a $5 cover after 10 p.m.

Two events honoring Selena are scheduled April 16. The Austin-based Selena tribute band Bidi Bidi Banda presents a free Selena Birthday Celebration at The Highball from 7-9 p.m. And at Alamo Drafthouse locations, there will be a Selena Sing-Along movie screening at various of the chain's theaters -- Lakeline, Slaughter Lane and South Lamar Boulevard locations included.
