Austin GOP Officials Strip The Powers Of Their Incoming Party Chairman
Robert Morrow has garnered national headlines for his rather bombastic views on everyone from Lyndon Johnson to Rick Perry.

AUSTIN, TX -- While Republicans at the national level struggle to find ways to control their unfiltered presidential nominee, the Travis County GOP has effectively neutralized their own similarly bombastic and newly elected chairman.
Earlier this week, the party essentially changed the rules a tad in order to limit the power of incoming chairman Robert Morrow, as the Texas Tribuneand others reported. Morrow's victory came as a huge shock to many given his interesting theories on a number of issues.
Morrow unexpectedly defeated outgoing Travis County GOP Chairman James Dickey in the March 1 elections -- unexpected given his unfiltered views. He's kind of like the Donald Trump of the South in terms of his unfiltered candor on expressing his beliefs and theories.

But Morrow is pretty out there. Compared to Morrow, even Trump almost seems statesmanlike. Why? Because Morrow has expressed some pretty wild pronouncements, including his oft-repeated claim that former Gov. Rick Perry hosted orgies -- one of his milder sexually explicit tweeted-out missives.
Those uniquly crafted tweets, along with his conspiracy theories, have garnered national attention. Among some of his recent tweets:

- “Bill Clinton’s troopers were quite the thugs back in Arkansas.”
- “One thing Bill Clinton and Donald Trump likely have in common: they raped their wives.”
- “Theories my ass. TRUTH that few others are too cowardly to tell.”
- “Roger Stone’s book indicting Lyndon Johnson is the best one on the JFK assassination.”
In a more recent tweet blasted out to the world on June 9, Morrow affirmed: "I like "beaners," "Hispanics" and people of Mexican descent. I like to eat beans as well."
Many of Morrow's tweets reach a level of vulgarity rendering them un-publishable here on Patch. If you dare, you can check out the prolific pace of his tweets and some of their explicit content on his Twitter page.

To rein him in, GOP operatives approved the creation of an eight-member steering committee -- of which he'll be a member -- to assume many of the duties typically handled by the chairman, the Tribune reported. And in a political version of hiding the silverware for safe keeping, the party also voted to transfer the party's funds to another group called Friends of the Travis County Republican Party.
Yet Morrow seems okay with the changes, either blissfully unaware they were created expressly to mitigate his presence as head of the local GOP or simply resigned to his fate.
"Those changes are fine with me because I want to facilitate the continued functioning of the Travis County Republican Party," Morrow said shortly before the meeting, as quoted by the Tribune. "However, I will continue to hold the bully pulpit and continue to hold political criminals of both parties accountable."
Like Trump, Morrow also insists on being treated nicely: "They’re going to be nice to me. I’m going to be nice to them," he said. "We’re going to keep the party running."
Morrow is expected to take "power" on June 21.
