Austin Inmate Dies While Hospitalized
Tyler Grist, 28, died at Dell Seton Medical Center where he was in the ICU after being found unresponsive in his cell, officials said.
AUSTIN, TX — An inmate died at an area hospital over the weekend after being found unresponsive in his cell, Travis County Sheriff's Office officials said on Sunday.
Tyler Grist, 28, of Austin died at Dell Seton Medical Center on Sept. 6 after being found in his cell unresponsive but still breathing, officials said in a press advisory. Sheriff's officials said the man was rushed to the hospital where he was treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for several days before he died.
Grist had been in custody since July 13 after being charged with a 2nd-degree felony count of arson and, later, assault causing bodily injury on a fellow inmate on July 25, officials said.

An investigation by the Internal Affairs Unit, the Texas Rangers and the Medical Examiner’s Office has been launched in accordance to protocol after a death in custody, the sheriff's office said. An autopsy was conducted on Sept. 8, with a final report to be finalized pending toxicology results, officials said.
