Austin ISD School Principal's Inappropriate Texts To Minor Revealed [UPDATES]

Burnet Middle School Principal David Dean is accused with soliciting an 11-year-old girl who is a member of his extended family.

AUSTIN, TX -- Disgraced Burnet Middle School Principal David Dean allegedly sent salacious texts to his 11-year-old second cousin in the Houston area in which he asks to get in her bed when visiting her, according to a published report.

The Courier of Montgomery County, a community newspaper in the Houston suburb of Conroe, reported Tuesday the girl was texting Dean in mid-April using her mother's phone, inviting him to a party scheduled for her pregnant mom.

After the girl texted the invite, Dean is alleged to have asked the girl if he could lay next to her when he visits. He's further alleged to have asked the girl what her "needs" were.

The girl texted back, asking the 35-year-old Dean if he knew with whom he was texting, according to the newspaper. He replied yes, and then directed the girl to delete the texts but then continued when she advised him her mom hadn't seen them.

He allegedly asked the girl if she knew what "...happens to a man when he sleeps," to which the girl replied no. "I won't come tonight, unless you tell me that you want to learn what a man's thing looks like," Dean is alleged to have written. "I will try to not let it, but sometimes things happen that shouldn't, especially with young girls."

From May 16:

AUSTIN, TX -- The principal of Burnet Middle School in north central Austin was arrested Monday on a charge of solicitation of a minor, Austin ISD officials confirmed to Patch.

School Principal David Dean was arrested on the charge Monday morning on the charge of online solicitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, according to Austin ISD officials. A spokesman for the school district provided Patch with a letter that was sent out to parents alerting them to the arrest.

"The Austin ISD Police Department was notified by the Texas Attorney General's Office and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office this morning that Principal David Dean had been arrested on a charge of online solicitation of a minor, a second-degree felony," district superintendent Paul Cruz wrote parents in a letter dated May 16. "Mr Dean has been placed on administrative leave without pay, effective immediately."

District officials said they would be unable to provide further details given the ongoing nature of the police investigation.

"Because this is an ongoing Montgomery County police investigation, we cannot provide further details at this time," Cruz continued. "We do not have reason to believe that any AISD students are involved."

District officials have invited parents of students attending the school are being invited to attend a meeting on Tuesday (May 17) to apprise them further, the superintendent said.

"Families are invited to join us for a meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, in the Burnet Middle School cafeteria," the superintendent wrote to parents. "The meeting will include information on the plan for campus leadership."

Cruz suggested frustration in not being able to provide further details for the time being, but promised transparency once the investigation into the principal is further under way.

"Austin ISD takes this situation very seriously, and we are committed to keeping you informed about this case within the limits of the investigation," he wrote. This situation is upsetting to all of us, but know that we will work through it together."

He added that an extra number of counselors would be made available to students and faculty members who have a need to discuss their feelings about the development with a professional.

"Extra counselors and staff will be available on campus this week to support both faculty and staff," Cruz wrote.

He referred further questions parents might have to the Austin Police Department at (512) 414-1703.
