AUSTIN, TX — Austin ISD officials on Friday announced all campuses will be closed indefinitely as a result of the growing coronavirus pandemic, according to a published report.

Superintendent Paul Cruz is said to have sent teachers an email announcing the development, according to a report by the Austin American-Statesman. All campuses were closed on March 23 as the city issued shelter-in-place orders to mitigate the spread of illness through physical distancing.

According to the newspaper report, teachers would be compensated until the end of their contract periods or through the end of the school year.
