Austin Local Takes Love For Animals To The Bank With Pet Sitting Site

Austin ,TX— An Austin local is turning to caring for people’s pets as a profitable side hustle. By day, Leslie LaGuardia of the Anderson Mill area works as a publicist, but after hours and on weekends she swaps press releases for throw toys, working as a pet sitter.

“I really love what I do! I've always had a heart for animals so this job is a dream come true! I’ve met so many interesting pet parents and their pets all over Austin and it's surrounding suburbs,” LaGuardia said.

LaGuardia joined the pet care platform Rover.com in early May. Several apps like Wag, TrustedHousesitters, and Care.com connect pet owners with local sitters.

After passing a background check and getting approved, Leslie set up her profile. The app offers pricing suggestions based on location and what nearby sitters are charging.
With a well-written profile and positive reviews, sitters can build a loyal client base. “My bookings are growing every day,” LaGuardia said.

Thanks to her growing list of satisfied customers, LaGuardia now earns extra money each month. She puts that money towards her vacation fund.

LaGuardia said Rover is very easy to work with; it’s upfront about taking 20 percent of one’s income, also, sitters have an opportunity to earn tips which go directly to the sitter.
