Austin Parks Foundation Awards $28,000 Grant To Local Museum

UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum was awarded the 2019 Spring Community Grant of $28,500, officials announced on Tuesday.

AUSTIN, TX — The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum was awarded the 2019 Spring Community Grant of $28,500 by the Austin Parks Foundation, officials said on Tuesday.

The grant was awarded through the Austin City Limits Music Festival Park Grants Program. Grant funding will be used for park improvement projects including building a collection tank and purchasing other equipment to help with water conservation, officials said.

In 1985, Charles and Angeline Umlauf gifted their home, property, his art studio and 168 sculptures to the City of Austin for public enjoyment and education. The UMLAUF since has been dedicated to art education and preserving the legacy of Charles Umlauf. There are always events happening at the UMLAUF, such as its annual Garden Party, to help raise funds to preserve the art and beauty of the garden. Recently, the UMLAUF partnered with the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired to train docents on how to lead Touch Tours, which allow visually impaired patrons the chance to feel and experience the art.

“Since 2006, APF has provided nearly $4 million in community-initiated grants to park adopters and park champions across the city,” Ladye Anne Wofford, APF’s chief mission officer said in a prepared statement. “Local advocates for their parks like the UMLAUF are the visionaries behind these communal spaces, and we are thrilled to continue doing our part in providing the financial support that help make these parks beautiful, functional and more accessible.”

As the anchor of the ACL Music Festival Grants Program, Community Grants are intended for large, community-initiated park improvement projects that fall between $5,000 to $50,000. These grants are offered twice a year with a grant period of 12 months and are awarded through a competitive process.
