Austin Police To Enforce DWI Crackdown For Holidays
Police said in a press advisory they would be conducting a "No Refusal Initiative" from Dec. 12 through Jan. 4, 2020.
AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department will bolster its efforts to crack down on impaired drivers during the holiday period starting this week.
Police said in a press advisory they would be conducting a "No Refusal Initiative" from Dec. 12 through Jan. 4, 2020, in conjunction with normal weekend no refusal initiative. The program will be operational from 10 p.m. -to 5 a.m. daily.
"This initiative is an effort to enforce DWI laws, keep the public safe by encouraging drivers to make responsible decisions," police said.

As part of the initiative, police will have the ability to draw blood from those unwilling to submit to a breathalyzer or decline to draw blood.
"The holiday season is often associated with parties and gatherings in which alcohol is present," police said in a press advisory, explaining the need to conduct such crackdowns. "We are dedicated to making roadways and waterways of Austin safe for residents and visitors through education and enforcement. There is no excuse to drink and drive! Plan a safe ride home."
