Austin Police ID Man Killed Trying To Cross Interstate 35

30-year-old man was hit by a semi-tractor trailer and other vehicles just after 3 a.m. on Monday while attempting to cross highway.

AUSTIN, TX — Police identified the pedestrian killed this week as he tried crossing Interstate 35.

The incident occurred on Monday, Sept. 2, just before 3:10 a.m. along the 1500 block of North Interstate 35 southbound. A preliminary police investigation shows a pedestrian was attempting to cross the 1500 block of N. IH 35 from west to east before a semi tractor-trailer and multiple other vehicles struck the pedestrian.

Police noted the driver of the tractor-trailer remained on scene to cooperate with a police investigation, while the pedestrian identified as Edgar Montoya, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident marked Austin’s 55th fatal traffic crash of 2019, police said, resulting in 57 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, officials added, there were 47 fatal traffic crashes and 48 traffic fatalities.
