Austin Police Identify Pedestrian In Fatal Traffic Wreck

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Friday, May 15, at 2:35 a.m. along the 12200 block of North Interstate 35 southbound. A preliminary police investigation shows a silver, 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling southbound in the middle lane of the artery as a pedestrian was attempting to cross from the center median to the west side of the highway when he was struck by the vehicle.

Police noted the driver stayed at the scene to cooperate with police, pulling into a gas station at the next exit as he waited for officers to arrive. Law enforcement officials said they don't believe that driver impairment, speeding or weather/road conditions were factors in the crash.

Medics at the scene administered life-saving measures, but the pedeatrian died of his injuries. He was identified as D.J. Davis, who was 35 years old. He was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m., police said.

The incident marked Austin’s 33rd fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 35 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 30 traffic fatalities.
