Austin Police To Volunteer In HEB 'Feast Of Sharing'

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Members of the Austin Police Department will volunteer at HEB’s 29th annual Feast of Sharing dinner scheduled on Tuesday, officials said.

Free and open to the public, the Nov. 20 event includes family-friendly activities, live music, entertainment and resources from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Chief of Police Brian Manley will provide remarks at 5:55 p.m. The Feast of Sharing Dinner will take place at 900 Barton Springs Rd. at the Palmer Events Center.

“It’s an honor to serve our community at this cheerful event,” Manley said in a prepared statement. “This event was created by community business partners and built on compassion, with the goal of fighting hunger.”

The menu includes sliced turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and pumpkin pie. "We hope the community will take advantage of this momentous event," officials said in a press advisory.

According to the HEB website, the Feast of Sharing is the culmination of a year‑round commitment the retailer makes to fighting hunger. An average Feast of Sharing dinner serves:

• 3,000 pounds of sliced turkey
• 2,500 pounds of cornbread dressing
• 750 pumpkin pies
• 380 gallons of mashed potatoes
• 140 gallons of turkey gravy.
