Austin, Rejoice: Tamales Orders From Fresa's Now Being Taken

Restaurant is offering chicken tinga and black bean & cheese this year, giving us all inestimable joy knowing the sun will come up tamales.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — There are certain words uttered or sung during the holiday season that invoke the spirit of the season, filling us with an inner, promise-filled glow: Joy. Noel. Peace. Love. Happiness. Presents. For some of us, there's another word yielding the same effect: Tamales.

Knowing the joy tamales bring, Fresa's will once again offer a special menu centered on the Mexican staple. This year, Fresa's is offering two types of tamales: Chicken Tinga and Black Bean & Cheese. The tamales will be served with crema and salsas and can be ordered a la carte or as part of a meal that includes rice, beans, and choice of queso or guacamole. Holiday desserts will include Mexican Wedding Cookies and Brown Butter Fudge Brownies by the dozen and Candy Cane Crunch Ice Cream by the pint.

All three offerings will be available at both locations from Dec. 22 to Dec. 24 only, restaurant officials said. These special menu items will be available for pre-order or for same-day ordering. Pre-orders start on Dec. 8, and can be placed online at www.fresaschicken.com. Same-day orders can be placed from Dec. 22-24 starting at 11 a.m. until sold out.

Additionally, Fresa’s is offering pozole from now through early 2019 at both locations. Fresa’s pozole will serve as the winter installment of their year-round rotating series of special seasonal menu items that includes Wood-Grilled Chicken Wings (fall), Shrimp Cocktails (summer), and the extremely popular Tortilla soup that is now available year-round. The pozole is currently available at both locations for same-day ordering.

For the uninitiated, pozole (pronounced po-sole-ey or thereabouts), is a traditional soup or stew from Mexico made from hominy with meat that can be seasoned and garnished with shredded cabbage, chile peppers, onion, garlic, radishes, avocado, salsa or limes. Pozole is typically served on New Year's Eve to celebrate the new year.
