Austin Road Projects Timeline Toward Completion Released
Road projects may seem interminable, but state officials assure the motoring public the end of construction to various projects is near.
AUSTIN, TX — Motorists often grumble about the seemingly interminable time it takes for construction projects to end. As if sensing that collective frustration, the Texas Department of Transportation this week issued updates on several key road improvements currently being worked on.
Here is that list of updates:
- I-35 at Corn Hill (Bud Stockton Loop): Crews have permanently closed the southbound I-35 entrance ramp, just south of Ronald Reagan Boulevard, to continue work on a retaining wall. The project team also continues work on the northbound entrance ramp at Bud Stockton loop. Both ramps are set to open in the upcoming months, weather permitting. This project is expected to complete in mid-2021.
- I-35 at Ronald Reagan Boulevard: The northbound and southbound columns for the eastbound bridge have been completed. This month, crews will continue constructing the retaining wall on the eastbound bridge, and will begin work on the center columns. This project is expected to complete in mid-2021.
- I-35 from RM 1431 to FM 3406 (northbound): Work continues on the widening and reconfiguration of the left-hand side of the frontage road from two to three lanes. This project is expected to complete late this year.
- I-35 from Rundberg Lane to US 290 East: The project team is moving forward on the southbound I-35 to southbound US 183 flyover with further work on the bridge beams and decks. Additionally, the new St. John’s bridge bicycle and pedestrian path will be open in early February. This project is expected to complete in mid-2021.
- I-35 at Oltorf Street: Crews finished reconstruction of the northbound and southbound shoulders as well as the grading of the main lanes. Over the next several weeks, crews will replace sections of the center barrier along the main lanes, and install electrical and lighting components and two sign structures over the main lanes. This project should complete this summer.
- I-35 from Stassney Lane to William Cannon Drive: Crews are adding permanent traffic signals and a pedestrian and bicycle shared-use path on the new Stassney Lane bridge. Driveways and a shared-use path are under construction along the northbound I-35 frontage road and the installation of utility lines is occurring along the southbound I-35 frontage road. This project is expected to complete mid-2020.
- I-35 at Posey Road: During the month of January, culvert work was completed on the southbound frontage road. Once work is finished on the northbound frontage road, crews will shift I-35 mainlane traffic to the west to continue construction on the I-35 overpass at Posey Road.
So hang in there, drivers, and try not to get too frustrated as you motor along. The end to construction is on the horizon.
