Austin Yellow Bike Project Poised For Holiday Giveaway
Toward its aim to promote bicycle use, the 22-year-old nonprofit has 130 refurbished bikes to be distributed to local children on Sunday.
EAST AUSTIN, TX — The nonprofit group Austin Yellow Bike Project will be staging its annual bicycle giveaway for kids on Sunday.
The non-profit 501(c)(3) organization has been working since 1997 to get more bikes on the streets of Austin by operating community bike shops, teaching bike mechanics and maintenance, and acting as a local bike advocacy group, as detailed on its website.
This year, there are 130 bikes being given away, reaching out to elementary schools and recreation centers for the holiday giveaway. Traditionally, it's first come first serve for the refurbished bikes, with 130 up for grabs this year for kids between the ages of 2 to 10.
