AUSTIN, TX — Just one day after announcing the reopening of the Barton Creek Greenbelt, parks and recreation officials declared it closed again after Austin was hit with a second consecutive day of heavy rainfall.

"The Barton Creek Greenbelt has re-closed due to additional rainfall and potential flash flooding over the next several days," Austin Parks & Recreation officials wrote on their website. "Last night's rain raised Barton Creek's flow rate and further deteriorated trail conditions. PARD staff continues to monitor the weather, and will provide updates as conditions change."

Officials had reopened the trails area even while alerting would-be visitors that the area was still slick and muddy. After subsequent rainfall on Wednesday, the closure was back on. Officials asked the public to observe all posted signs at the site while staying out of closed areas.

AUSTIN, TX — The Barton Creek Greenbelt has reopened after weekend flooding forced its closure, city officials said Tuesday.

Despite the opening, parks and recreation officials noted that slick and muddy conditions still persist throughout the trail system. As a result, park users should exercise caution when traversing the site and stick to official trails as an added safeguard.

The Parks and Recreation Department continues to monitor conditions throughout the greenbelt and may close sections as needed, officials said. Barton Creek Greenbelt visitors should note that additional rain is forecast for later this week, which may necessitate another closure, according to parks & rec officials.
