Belmont Village cruises down memory lane with classic car show

Belmont Village Senior Living West Lake Hills hosted a 'Blast from the Past' Car Parade and Exhibit.

You may have thought you went back in time if you were recently at Belmont Village West Lake Hills. Belmont Village residents and local community members took a trip down memory lane during the “Blast from the Past” Car Parade and Exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The 1950s-themed event, which was free and open to the public, featured the Road Relics Antique Car Club and drew more than 70 attendees. The Road Relics brought out nearly a dozen of their rarest, mint condition classic cars including a 1940 LaSalle, 1955 Chevrolet Sedan, 1955 Buick Century Convertible, 1956 Oldsmobile, 1958 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, 1962 Lincoln Continental Convertible, 1965 Factory Five Shelby Cobra Replica, 1970 Chevrolet Truck, and a 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible.

“The weather couldn’t have been better for some good old-fashioned fun, and many of these retro cars brought back vivid memories for our residents as well as the baby boomers and older community members in attendance,” said Donna Hermann, executive director of Belmont Village West Lake Hills.

After watching the parade of cars trickle into Belmont Village’s spacious parking lot, residents and guests had the chance to meet the car club drivers, enjoy burgers and fries from Belmont’s retro-themed diner, and boogie to live music. The event also featured fun ‘50s nostalgic festivities such as hula-hoop games, bubblegum blowing, and a name-that-tune contest.

“Helping our residents remain active and engaged is a high priority, and we’re always looking for creative ways to improve and enhance our programs and social offerings,” said Hermann. “We love being able to host events that encourage various generations to mix and mingle, and that bring the local community together. That’s exactly what happened at our ‘Blast from the Past’ Car Parade and Exhibit, and we’re thrilled it was such a big success.”
