Bodies Of 2 Missing Boaters Recovered In Eastern Travis County

AUSTIN, TX — The bodies of a man and a woman were recovered from a pond in eastern Travis County on Wednesday after both reportedly fell from a watercraft two days before, officials confirmed.

Travis County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kristen Dark told Patch via email the two bodies were recovered on Wednesday. The pond where the two boaters went missing is in Del Valle, Texas.

The discovery comes after Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded to the 1000 block of Fallwell Lane just after 8 p.m. on Monday amid reports that two adults had fallen from a canoe without resurfacing.

Austin Fire Department crews and a STAR Flight helicopter pilot aided in the search.

Some 40 minutes after the search began, rescue efforts were turned into a recovery mission in search of bodies, as medics reported via Twitter at the time. Reached via email on Wednesday, Dark said she would provide further details on Thursday once positive identification of the two adults are confirmed.

Powerful storms on Sunday resulted in flash flooding in some parts, with sporadic rain continuing into Memorial Day. Although it's unclear what caused the boaters to fall into the water, such downpours typically alter the dynamics of waterways, strengthening currents given increased water volume and creating extra debris underwater.
