- After President Joe Biden's "emotional plea for action" on Thursday, June 2, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott from Austin "sent letters to the Texas Education Agency and Texas School Safety Center to inspect schools and find ways to maximize school safety." He also "asked Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dade Phelan to appoint special committees to find legislative solutions." On Friday, June 3, former Congressman Beto O'Rourke and Abbott's Democratic challenger "held a town hall in Austin saying that in order to reduce gun violence, the state has to do something about guns." - When Reagan Caussey from Austin "went paddle boarding in Lady Bird Lake...she got swimmer's itch, also called cercarial dermatitis," and made a TikTok video about it which went viral. According to "the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)," the condition is more common in the summertime. When KVUE asked "Austin Watershed Protection Department" officials "if it is safe to be in Lady Bird Lake," a spokesperson said that "Lady Bird Lake continues to meet State of Texas contact recreation standards, which are based on bacteria levels. However, they do say when interacting with natural bodies of water, exposure to bacteria or parasites is always possible." (KVUE.com)
- "A League of Her Own" at the Bottle Alley Theatre, located at 901 E. Applegate Drive E, is a 65 minute play about a girl named Sam "who is ready for a new world full of possibility and rebirth but something hides in the dark." During the performance, "she invites us into her hiding place where we spend the next hour inside the waking nightmare that has become her life."
