Cold, Rainy Days Ahead For Austin Region In Coming Days

Those finding themselves chilly when temps dip to 60s are in for a cold slap in the face from Mother Nature, with lows in 30s and 40s.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — In our reportorial wanderings, we've come across people in Austin who complain it's too cold when temperature dip down to, say, 65 degrees or so. "It's soooooo cold," they say as they bundle themselves tighter in their sweaters of full-fledged jackets.

If that's you, you're in for a rude awakening as temperatures starting dipping into the 40s Saturday night, with similarly chilliness expected through the week. Oh, also, there's a good chance of showers this week as if we need more of the wet stuff.

On Friday night, the low temperature dipped to around 43 degrees with winds of up to 10 miles per hour from the north/northeast. It'll be much the same on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, with mostly cloudy conditions and a high of 52 degrees. By nightfall, the low will descend to 45 degrees.

Then, things start getting serious in terms of the cold. Under mostly cloudy skies, the low Monday night will be around 35 degrees. That was not a typo. The low will be thirty-five degrees. Wind gusts could reach 25 miles per hour.

That won't be the end of temperatures in the 30s either. Tuesday will start off fine enough, sunny with a high near 53 degrees and wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour. But Tuesday night will bring a low of 37 degrees. At least the wind will be gentle, predicted at a mere five miles per hour. But still: 37 degrees.

Here's the rest of the forecast through next Friday:

  • Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 61 degrees while nighttime will be clear with a low around 40 degrees.
  • Thursday also will be sunny with a high near 63 degrees. By nightfall, temps will dip to a low of 46 degrees under mostly clear conditions.
  • Friday will start off mostly sunny with a high near 66 degrees.

Sorry to have to tell you about all this. We had nothing to do with it. Stay warm.
