Community Events Scheduled At Austin Community College
Despite summer doldrums, much is happening at ACC. Check out list of summer happenings here.
AUSTIN, TX — Despite the summer doldrums, there is much happening at Austin Community College. The school is hosting a series of community events from July 1 to July 7.
- Exercise Science Program named first in the state: ACC’s Exercise Science Program was awarded initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs in the area of Personal Fitness Training. The program is the fifth in the nation to receive this accreditation and the first in Texas. Fall applications for the program are now being accepted. - ACC Closed for Fourth of July: ACC will close in observance of Independence Day, Thursday, July 4. All offices reopen 8 a.m. Friday, July 5. Summer and fall registration will remain open.
- Final day to register: Students may still register for ACC’s 5.5-week summer classes. Registration remains open through Friday, July 5. Classes begin Monday, July 8. Summer classes help students stay on track, work around busy schedules, and complete a course in just over a month. For more information and to register, visit austincc.edu/register.
- Apple/ACC partnership for teacher coding: Local K-12 teachers are learning new coding skills to incorporate into their curriculum. ACC partnered with Apple to launch the Austin Teachers Coding Academy, a week-long training program that prepares teachers for app development using Apple Swift code.
- Ascender Applications: ACC is accepting fall applications for Ascender, a student support organization created to help improve the educational outcomes of Latino and underserved student populations throughout the state. The program has grown from 15 students to 100 students in the past five years. It provides one-on-one guidance, academic support, and activities with multicultural activities. ACC is one of nine colleges and universities nationwide to be awarded the national Seal of Excelencia for its dedication to supporting Latino students.
- Capital Metro Digital Green Pass: ACC students and employees can ride Capital Metro free of charge with the Digital Green Pass. The pass offers students, faculty, and staff unlimited rides on the Capital Metro transit system for one semester. Passes may be requested at the ACC Transportation website.
