🌱 Cool Front On The Horizon? + ACL Week 1 Recap + Austin FC Updates ⚽

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Austin.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, friends and neighbors! It's a beautiful Tuesday morning in Austin, and I'm back with your fresh copy of the Austin Daily.

Settle in with your morning java while we dive into:

  • What to expect from the weather forecast this week.
  • A recap of the top ACL Festival performances from Weekend One.
  • California Gov. Newsom is putting up billboards....in Austin?
  • Kid-friendly events, chess night, and much more ➡️

But first, today's weather:

☀️ Mostly sunny and warm. High: 90 Low: 67.

Here are the top stories in Austin today:

1) Austin continues to see warm, dry temps and humid air leading up to a potential midweek cold front. The break in triple-digit weather has been a treat, but I know many of us are looking forward to fully embracing autumn. FOX 7 Austin has more on what to expect from the weather this week – check it out!

2) Austin City Limits Festival Weekend One is officially behind us! If you weren't able to make it out to Zilker Park this past weekend or tune in to the live stream on Hulu – fret not! Slant Magazine has compiled a review of the 10 best performances from the weekend.

3) California Gov. Newsom's campaign put up a billboard in South Austin promoting abortion access. The billboard, which sits at South Congress near Stassney Lane, reads: "Need an abortion? California is ready to help." Texas is one of seven states with billboards touting California abortion access. Head to KXAN to get the full scoop.

4) Austin FC will have its first-ever playoff match this Sunday! Austin FC will host Real Salt Lake for the club's Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs Round One match this Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Q2 Stadium. The match kicks off at 2 p.m. and will air on KVUE. Learn more about how you can attend and tune in over at KVUE.

5) It's spooky season — with a twist! A resident in North Austin has created a "Cemetery of Old Austin" in their very own yard. Instead of the typical ghouls, ghosts and goblins, the cemetery pays homage to all of the local businesses that are no longer in Austin. Let's hope they have a big yard 😉. Head over to KVUE to learn more!

  • 🍷 Our neighbors in the Hill Country are getting some much-deserved recognition: Fredericksburg now ranks among the most "dynamic" U.S. micropolitan areas. If you haven't been to Fredericksburg yet, I suggest you plan a trip. It's the perfect blend of Texas heart and German soul (and they've got some darn good wine, too!).
