Coronavirus: 2 Travis County Jail Inmates Test Positive

The Travis County Sheriff's Office noted that both people testing positive have since been released from custody.

TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — Two more Travis County Corrections Complex inmates have tested positive for the coronavirus, officials revealed on Monday.

In reporting the findings, the Travis County Sheriff's Office noted the two inmates who tested positive in the last week are no longer in custody. One was released upon sentence completion while the other was released on bond, officials added. Both former inmates were housed in isolation, officials added, and never interacted in the general population.

Overall, 157 inmates have been tested, with 145 resulting negative and three positive, officials said. Nine tests are still pending, according to the sheriff's office. Travis County Sheriff's Office employees also have been tested in various departments:

  • Law enforcement: 24 tested, 24 negative.
  • Corrections: 56 tested, 42 negative and nine positive. There are five pending steps.
  • Administration/Support: 23 tested, 18 negative and three positive. There are two tests pending.
