Coronavirus: Texas Illness Count Grows To 4,469, With 70 Deaths

AUSTIN, TX — The number of confirmed positive coronavirus cases in Texas has grown by 675, bringing the state total to 4,669 with 70 deaths, officials said on Thursday.

Texas Department of State Health Services data show Harris County leading the list of diagnosed cases of COVID-19, with 847 cases. Dallas and Travis counties round out the top three list with 731 and 305 cases, respectively, according to the updated figures. Counties in the 200-plus count include Tarrant (288 cases), Denton (231) and Bexar (229).

Counties recording fewer than 200 cases are Fort Bend (194); Collin (184); Galveston (118); Montgomery (110); Brazoria (109); and Lubbock (108). The rest of the state's 254 counties have registered fewer than 100 cases, including El Paso County with 68 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the number of total cases has reached 213,144 with 4,513 deaths.

Notwithstanding the increased number of cases in Texas, the state is two notches below the top ten of COVID-19 concentration in the U.S. New York leads the dubious list, with 92,381 confirmed cases and 2,373 recorded fatalities. Rounding out the top five states with highest illness concentration are New Jersey (22,255 cases with 355 deaths); California (9,937, 216); Michigan (9,315, 335); and Florida (7,773, 101).
