- After working behind the scenes for big-name progressive politicians, Zohaib Qadri is taking center stage as he enters the race to secure the seat for Austin City Council District 9. A 31-year-old progressive Democrat, Qadri previously worked for Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former El Paso Congressman Beto O' Rourke. (The Texas Signal)
- An Austin brewing company is holding an event promoting free COVID-19 booster shots this Friday in a partnership with Austin Public Health. Jester King Brewery's "Shot Fer a Pint" event is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 7 to encourage community members to visit the Pole Barn at Jester King to get their booster and receive a free beer for those 21 years or older or get half off any pizza. - To help District 4 residents to learn about the candidates running for the open council seat, the city of Austin is sponsoring a virtual City Council candidate forum at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The forum will be hosted by the city's Ethics Review Commission and the League of Women Voters Austin Area. (Austin American-Statesman)
- Doug Polk, Brad Owen, and Andrew Neeme, three of the most recognizable content creators in the poker space, have announced they have teamed up to purchase a majority share of The Lodge Poker Club & Card Room. As the largest poker room in the city, the club has also attracted other partners, including Ryan Fee, Matt Colletta, Mike Brady, and Thomas Keeling. (PocketFives)
