Downtown Austin Streets Closed To Traffic For Dignitary Visit

Sizable police presence was dispatched downtown as portions of Guadalupe and Lavaca streets are closed, causing traffic delays.

AUSTIN, TX — Several downtown streets were blocked to traffic Tuesday to accommodate a a visit from an unidentified dignitary, according to reports.

A sizable police presence could be seen in the central business district at 400 Lavaca St. near the intersection with 4th Street as multiple lanes of traffic were closed as roadways are blocked to accommodate the high-profile visitor, according to the Austin Police Department. Additionally, Lavaca Street was completely closed for several blocks along with two lanes on Guadalupe Street near 4th Street, police said.

Police alerted to the closures on Monday, providing the following details:

  • The two eastern lanes of southbound Guadalupe Street from 5th Street to 4th Street will be closed until 2 p.m. The other lanes of southbound Guadalupe Street will remain open.
  • At 9 a.m., the two westbound lanes of Lavaca Street between 4th and 5th streets will be closed until around 2 p.m. The remaining lanes of northbound traffic on Lavaca Street will remain open during this period.

The street closures have caused significant traffic delays, according to reports, and drivers are urged to seek alternative routes in reaching their destinations.
