East Austin Couple Reunited With Dog Gone Missing Following Burglary

Police located Ernie the poodle two days after burglary and delivered the furry pooch to a very grateful pair of residents.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Reunited, and it feels so good.

Police on Thursday returned an East Austin couple's dog days after it disappeared following the burglary of their home in the Preswyick Hills section of the city. The neighborhood has been hit hard in recent days by burglars, as KVUE and other media outlets have reported.

The saga began on Dec. 6, when the couple returned home to find they had been burglarized for the second time in a month's time. This time, however, the beloved family pet — a 10-year-old bichon poodle named Ernie — was also missing.

The couple was heartbroken over the loss, especially having seen Ernie come a long way from when it was the runt of the litter, so weak it took a long time to use its hind legs.

But two days after the loss, the Austin Police Department delivered the best of news: Ernie was recovered during a suspicious vehicle call, police said. And now, the little furry guy has been reunited with his human parents.
