Forecast Calls For Rain, Colder Temps In Austin Area

After glorious, spring-like weather this weekend, Tuesday's high will barely reach 45 degrees and a 90 percent chance of rain will emerge.

AUSTIN, TX — After several days of unseasonably warm weather, the Austin in climate is taking a sudden turn.

The National Weather Service says Monday night calls for rain, mainly after 1 a.m., with a low of around 42 degrees. Winds starting at 5 to 10 miles per hour will increase to up to 15 miles per hour after midnight, according to forecasters — with wind gusts as high as 20 miles per hour.

But let's get back to the rain chances. The likelihood of precipitation for Monday night was 80 percent, with amounts of a tenth of an inch possible. By Tuesday, those chances of rain grow to 90 percent, forecasters added.

Tuesday's rain is expected mainly before 1 p.m., with a high near 45 degrees. That's the high temperature, folks — a far cry from the near-80 degrees reached just this past weekend. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are possible.

By nightfall on Tuesday, the chance of rain drops to 50 percent before 7 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy during the early evening before it gradually clears, with a low of around 33 degrees. North wind is expected to blow between 5 to 15 miles per hour.

Then, it's expected to get sunny again. By Wednesday, sunny skies and a high near 56 degree are expected with wind negligible at around 5 miles per hour. Nightfall will bring mostly clear conditions with a low of around 34 degree and the same wind speed.

Forecasters expect Thursday to be mostly sunny with a high near 57 degrees with winds staying around 5 miles per hour. Thursday night will bring a low temperature of around 38 degrees with the same wind speed blowing in from the southwest after midnight.
