Former Austin Cop Pleads Guilty To Murder
First pleading not guilty to murdering Samantha Dean and an unborn child, VonTrey Clark spares himself from the death penalty with reversal.
AUSTIN, TX — A former Austin police officer confessed to murder in the death of a woman and her unborn child, according to a published report on Monday.
The guilty plea is a reversal for VonTrey Clark, who initially pleaded not guilty in the murder of Samantha Dean and her child in utero. The guilty plea comes mere months before the former cop was scheduled to go to trial, as the Austin American-Statesman reported.
The plea agreement spares Clark from the death penalty prosecutors had sought in favor of a life sentence without the possibility of parole, the newspaper reported. According to reports, the victim was Clark's girlfriend at the time of her death.
