Girl Power: Downtown Austin Ritz Theater Sets All-Female 'Wonder Woman' Screening
Only ladies will be allowed at upcoming screening and the theater's staff that day—ushers, projectionist, culinary team—will be all women.

AUSTIN, TX — They are movie-going women, hear them roar.
In what is either a brilliant marketing stroke or a genuine promotion of female empowerment and bonding—or a little of both, really—the downtown Alamo Drafthouse Ritz theater has scheduled an upcoming, only-women-allowed screening of DC Comics' new "Wonder Woman" movie.
And that's not all: There won't be a man in sight, with all the theater's operations manned, um, staffed by women.

"And when we say 'Women (and People Who Identify As Women) Only,' we mean it," the company announced on its website. "Everyone working at this screening -- venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team -- will be female."
The special June screening commemorates the long-awaited movie featuring a superheroine in an age when the guys get all the fun with their Spiderman, Superman, Hulk, X-Men and whatnot. This time, it's for the ladies.

"The most iconic superheroine in comic book history finally has her own movie, and what better way to celebrate than with an all-female screening?" theater officials said. "Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying 'No Guys Allowed' for one special night at the Alamo Ritz."
Movie officials provided a synopsis of the upcoming movie: Set against the looming backdrop of The War to End All Wars, The Amazons, a race of fierce women warriors, live in peace on their island of Themyscira until the fires of WWI reach their shores in the person of downed airman Steve Trevor. The news he brings from “Man’s World” is grim—engines of death and clouds of choking gas have consumed the globe, and it seems like the Themyscirans old foe—Ares, the god of war—is behind this Apocalyptic vision.

But fear not: Diana, daughter of Queen Hippolyta, leaves behind her island nation and finds herself a bright, shining beacon of hope in a world that desperately needs it. That's all we're saying her in avoidance of a spoiler alert. But you get the gist.
The women-only showing of "Wonder Woman" at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz, 320 E. 6th St., is scheduled at 7 p.m. on June 6. For ticket information, click here.
