Gun Surrender Events Scheduled In Austin
Residents will be able to safely dispose of unwanted guns and ammunition at event scheduled for Jan 28.
AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department has scheduled a "no questions asked" gun surrender event next week during which residents can safely drop off unwanted firearms and ammunition.
The first gun surrender event will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Robert T. Martinez Central East Substation, 812 Springdale Rd. Here are some guidelines provided by police:
- Do not walk into the substation with a visible gun or ammunition.
- Guns should not be loaded.
- Firearms and ammunition should be in separate bags.
- Bring unwanted gun(s) and ammunition to 812 Springdale Rd. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
- Leave the gun or ammunition in the car (trunk or back seat) or bagged (if on foot).
- Tell an officer you are there to turn in a gun for the items to be safely retrieved.
Future gun surrender events are scheduled on April 28; July 28; Oct. 27 and Jan. 26. To learn more , click here.
